Manipulator

Okay, said I was going to be off until late this weekend, BUT... As it turned out I felt I had to deal with the charge of, "Manipulation!" which many of us hear monotonously from the Organic Photographic movement. Like many of you, I've frequently heard people speak of my images.... "Hey! That's not photography!"

I know I've dealt with that here before, but I decided to head off the controversy at the show tomorrow night by making this poster I've posted tonight. Hope it stops some repetitive questions. It's just not.... not... PC... to charge "Manipulation!"

Right? Right?

This is YOUR day Ted. Enjoy.

I guess that the organic photographer that spends 4.2 seconds to capture the decisive moment is art; but someone who spends hours "post processing" to convey a feeling is not art. Hmmmmm........

See you tonight.

(Bill) Mucho gracias

(trub) Oh they don't deny that it m ay be art, just that post processing beyond the degree to which they are willing to go... is not photography. As someone recently wrote to Craig Tanner re. one of his images... "I don't know what this thing is, maybe graphic art, but it's not photography." I get that a lot. So, I am trying to avoid the confusion and dodge the "Do you manipulate your photos?" question. Look forward to seeing you tonight. Hope we aren't alone....

Hmm ... I may be too late, but better late than never. I won't be able to be with you tonight, but I know it will be a success.

While I know they won't be needed: my best wishes to you.

I found this too difficult to read on my browser, but I know you've dealt with this question eloquently and competently before. Another well written essay on the subject can be found at: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/columns/just-say-yes.shtml

Ted,
You and I would get along just fine.

I'm an artist with photographic skills too ;)

We're "Photographic Artists".

I don't understand why it's so important for people to confine the things we do with words so often. Who cares if it's "photography", "photographic art", "graphic art", "photomanipulation", whatsoever. The point is that we should enjoy the way we like to express ourselves and vice versa enjoy the expression of others.

Take care ... Andreas.
