Once And Again

It was about 35 years ago. Rita and I were married, say, five years. It was our second visit to San Francisco, the first to Big Sur. This guy sits some distance above that wonderfull place in the middle of a 17 mile ring around Pebble Beach.

A couple of weeks ago we went back there again. It's like a friend now, but strangely while I've aged, the lone tree hasn't. Which maybe makes both of us feel decades younger.

Ever hear of The Picture of Dorian Gray? Oscar Wilde imagined a magical portrait in which the drawing matured so that the subject didn't. Right: The painting got old and Dorian stayed young.

For a little while we felt some magic... Dorian could like this place...

You might as well.

Great work, Ted. It looks almost 3-D on my screen!

Oh yeah, places same and places changed :)

The magical place of my childhood comes to my mind. A house on a long street between Klagenfurt and the next small village, another settlement along a side road, a forest behind our house, a hill where we used to ski in winter and sat on a centuries-old oak tree, ... , and all that is gone. Yes, the house is still there but behind a noise barrier, there are many more houses around, the forest behind is gone, and so is the oak on the hill and the pond where children used to skate in winter. Quite the reverse thing.

Wonderful image. May I say beautiful? WOW!

been there many times myself it is a lovely drive and to see how the other half live. Magical and I agree some how trees and such just get better with time. Most humans do too we just do not realize it all the time. You sure have...

I finally left this thing go. I've smudged the tree and produced a sky that I think belongs on a bland SciFi cover. There is in my mind something grotesque to the final image here, but not what I intended. It is however, unique. Largely because I lost control.

Nothing to worry about. I like losing control, i.e. letting the image go where it wants to go, only trying to maintain an environment for it to grow :)
